God Bless you in every experience of life!
Religion begins in faith; would you believe it? Well, I would say that one of the names for religion today is faith because it begins with the belief that there is something called God; something that is beyond death; something that is transcendent to this material universe. What most people say is that everything about God will be revealed and you do get to meet God, but after death. Huh! As we investigate more deeply, we reach to the deeper understanding of religion as Experience and not just belief. Swami Vivekananda had once said that religion is realization. When we say God bless you; what are we actually saying? Through this blogpost I will talk more about, God and its existence in every experience of life. I hope you find this article interesting.
It is not like believing in this or that; in this person or that person; in this book or that book; in this doctrine or that doctrine; but actually, it is about Living Realization. More than 100 years ago Swami Vivekananda spoke about the techniques of Raja Yoga, Patanjali Yoga and he showed how by practicing certain spiritual disciplines one can actually get a god experience. Experience of God in extraordinary states of consciousness in different kinds of Samadhi but let’s look even deeper.
As it appears to me, God has a rule; until your heart is pure, he will not manifest himself. It’s like a self-realization that when your heart is fully clean then only God will come to you, but the question is what do I do before that my lord? How do I get knowledge? How do I get guidance? How do I prepare myself? God says, this will all be done through the gurus. Therefore, in this situation the Guru’s role becomes very important. He first of all gives us the knowledge, he inspires us, guides us. He helps us resolves the doubts and the problems that arise on the path. Whenever we learned something, we learnt it with the help of a teacher.
So the spiritual realm requires that teacher even more because here the knowledge is divine. It is not immediately perceptible so the teacher who has realized it becomes a necessary pre-requisite. Even in the Bible it is said you can only reach the father through the son, so what does it mean? I feel that that guru is required to reach the supreme father. It is like this – there is a daughter born to a parent, they raise her up, they teach her many skills they teach her kathaak and classical music and groom her and make her qualified in every aspect of life. The parents did such a thing because they felt its their duty to prepare their child to the best of their ability. Now a days comes in their life, they find a handsome guy, they go on an interview(s) and some follow-up meetings and if everything goes well then this guy takes her around the fire seven times and takes her away with him.
So what you just read in the above lines is that this Sahab (the guy) who took away the lady after those seven rounds around the fire what was the big deal? What just happened? So here’s the deal – the parents who groomed that little girl into a qualified lady in the same way the Guru is the one who grooms the soul and brings the soul to that point where the soul is now qualified for God. At that point then God comes into our lives. Then god at that time reveals himself.
Somebody whose mind is not yet pure god says go to the guru, he will help you clean it up. The guru then does the work of a sweeper. He cleans up the mind, the body and the sould of that person. Finally, when we are up to that point and the divine love parabhakti is to be given. One of the biggest graces of god is the human form and the second blessing is a true guru or we may say a sadhguru. This is one of the biggest mercies of God the first one we got is the human form, the second is to find a true guru. Now the next thing is to utilize these graces to make the most out of them. We need to follow and remember the guidance of our guru; walk on the path shown to us by the guru and all the worldly desires like name, fame, recognition, happiness etc though being materialistic will still come to your life. We don’t need to think of the fruits of our devotion towards God; we rather need to focus on our work, our duties.
God is found in every experience of life not just extraordinary experiences not just mystical trances. God can be found and indeed must be found ultimately has to be found in every experience of life not just waiting for death after which our soul may experience of God. Who knows? Suppose I don’t find God after death, suppose God doesn’t show up after death? Now I can’t come back and catch those who said you will get god when you die. It’s too late, right?
Can we find God in every experience of our life? Vedanta says we can and we must. This is the theme of Vedanta; Swami Vivekananda taught the mankind that Vedanta is most practical. The reason he said so is that Vedantha insists that the truth is within us. You see, it is the blessing of the god that we find God in every experience of life. It is a blessing that we have got a human life and its also through blessings of the god that we get a true guru. So, when we say God Bless you to some-one; what we are actually saying is may God be with you all time, may no harm come upon you and may you lead the life as per the guidance of your guru.
